How to set up an online result checker for your school

An online result checker ends the queue on result day: parents see the report card on their phone the moment you publish. Here's how it works, what to decide first, and how to keep each child's results private.

How online result checking works

Teachers enter scores, the principal approves the report cards, and the school publishes them. Parents then open the school's result page and either sign in with their own account or enter a result PIN, often printed on a scratch card. They see the report card the school approved, and can download or print it.

Logins or scratch-card PINs?

Many schools use both: families with the app just sign in, and PINs are there for everyone else.

What to decide before result day

  • Who approves report cards before they're published (usually the principal or head teacher)
  • Whether results are held back for families with unpaid fees, and who they should contact
  • How many times each PIN can be used, and whether it works for one term only
  • When results go live, so parents aren't checking an empty page
  • How parents will be told, by SMS, email or the school app

Keep results private

A result checker shows children's personal data, so it must only show each child to their own family. Look for these protections:

  • A PIN is tied to one student and term on first use, so a card can't be passed around
  • Each PIN has a use limit
  • PINs are long enough not to be guessed (12 digits or more)
  • The page is on https, the school's own address

Setting it up in Qyskul

  1. 1Enter scores and approve report cards in Results.
  2. 2Publish the class's results. Parents with the app can see them straight away.
  3. 3Optionally, make PINs in Results → PIN cards, choose how many uses each, and print them.
  4. 4Share your school's result page link (yourschool.qyskul.com/check-result).

On the Growth plan and above, parents get an SMS or email the moment results are published.

Questions

Can one scratch card be used for another student?

Not in Qyskul. The first check ties the PIN to that student and term.

Can we hold results for parents who owe fees?

Yes, if you choose to. Families with an outstanding balance are told who to contact instead.

Do parents need to download an app?

No. The result checker opens in any phone browser. Parents who want the app can install it from the same page.
